AN assault charge against a former Wyre Forest Council election candidate's ex-girlfriend has been dismissed due to a lack of evidence.

Former election candidate David Hollyoak admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm against his ex-partner Natalie Williams last month, resulting in him being suspended from the Wyre Forest Liberal Democrat group.

Redditch Magistrates' Court heard on June 10 how Mr Hollyoak, aged 51, of Greatfield Road, Kidderminster, punched Ms Williams in the face, pushed her into a paddling pool and hit her with a washing line prop on May 26 this year.

At the time, Ms Williams, aged 52, of Astwood Lane, Wychbold, was on bail for an alleged attack against Mr Hollyoak.

Ms Williams denied assault by beating, which was alleged to have happened in Kidderminster on May 1, and was set to appear at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Friday (July 12).

However, the case was thrown out that morning due to a lack of evidence.
