A CONTROVERSIAL plan to build 31 new homes on green space in Battenhall will go before council planners again to approve a new access road.

Work is already under way to build the homes - which includes 12 affordable homes - on the old National and Local Government Officers' Association (NAGLO) sports ground off Battenhall Road but the height of the access road needs to be readjusted to prevent new residents from being able to look into neighbours' gardens.

The plan has been called in to the planning committee by Councillor Louis Stephen, who represents Battenhall, who said the minor detail needed to be ironed out to prevent new residents and visitors from seeing into some of the garden's in Battenhall Road.

Cllr Stephen said: "I called this particular planning application in because it was a detail that I don't think was properly picked up when it was approved a few years ago.

"The people living in those 31 homes will be walking or driving past the gardens in Battenhall Road and I don't think it's very fair that some of the people who already live there should have to suffer from a loss of privacy because of the height and gradient of the road.

"It is something that should, hopefully, be quite easy to fix.

"Whether it means the gradient of the road has to be changed slightly or whether some of the fences need to be made bigger, it's about finding a compromise."

Highway bosses at Worcestershire County Council have already been in discussion with the affected residents.

Permission was granted by the city council to the build the new homes on the green space almost three-and-a-half years ago.

More than 50 objections were made by residents in Battenhall Road and Battenhall Rise with many objecting to the principle of the development, the cramped design and loss of privacy as well as congestion and increase in parking in Battenhall Road and around the new development.

The city council's planning committee meets on Thursday.
