THE big top will be going up at Tenbury High School.

More than 100 young people will be able to learn circus and theatre skills and then put on a show in a big top.

The project is sponsored by the Tenbury High School Ormiston Academy.

It is led by Jack Ludwig, aged 30, who is a teacher at the musical theatre school for young people at the Regal in the town.

The young people, aged between seven and 16 years, will attend five days of classes and then they will perform in the big top that is capable of taking an audience of 1,000.

“It will give young people something interesting and enjoyable to do at the end of the school holiday,” said Mr Ludwig.

“The children and young people will have the fun of building a show.

“Each day the students will get to work with professional industry tutors and will rotate around the site, so they all get to work in the Big Top Tent.”

Professional performers have been engaged to lead the four groups during the week.

It has been organised so that those taking part will be with people of a similar age.

Those between seven and eight have been designated as Jumbos, the Jolly group are aged nine and 10, the Zippos 11 and 12 and the older participants the Chipperfields - each taking the name of a well-known circus company.

On the first day the emphasis will be on singing including learning well known songs. Then on the second day it will be dancing shoes on as the young people learn the routines that they will need in the show.

Day three will see the groups merge their singing with the dance routines together followed by some circus themed Drama. Who will be crowned the Greatest Ring Master?!

This will be followed by a visit from the Wye Circus in Hereford.

We are over the moon to be welcoming Wye Circus from Hereford to introduce the world of circus skills,” added Mr Ludwig.

The activity starts on Tuesday, August 26 and finishes on Sunday, August 31. Each of the first four days will be from 10am until 3pm.

It will cost £135 for all five days. More information is available by visiting www.ludwigthreatrearts.com
