ON Saturday, August 24, two events are being staged in adjacent halls in Blockley , a Flower Show and Blockley Heritage Society Exhibition.
This will be the 70th Summer Flower Show since the foundation of Blockley and District Horticultural Society. There will be the customary flower and vegetable classes, also cookery, crafts and photography. There will be separate children’s classes and one cookery class restricted to men only.
Entry to classes is not restricted to members and there are no entry fees. Schedules and entry forms can be obtained from the Blockley Shop.
The Flower Show opens at 2.30pm in St George’s Hall.
Meanwhile in the Jubilee Hall, next door, Blockley Heritage Society mark 100 years since the passing of the Housing and Town Planning act of 1919 with their exhibition “Celebrating Station Road, Winterway, Springfield, Summerfield Close and Meadow View”.
The display in the Heritage Centre within the Jubilee Hall will show how new housing was developed in the Village after World War 1 and tell about some of the people who have lived in the area over the last 100 years using photographs maps and personal memories. The Society invites anyone who can contribute to the information that they have to let them know prior to the exhibition or on the day.
