LOOKING for something to do on the weekend? Why not take a tour of Redditch’s Crematorium.

People are being invited to see behind the scenes at the crematorium, and being reassured they will not see anything "untoward".

Redditch councillor Brandon Clayton, environmental services portfolio holder, admitted: “This might seem a strange thing for us to offer but actually there are lots of people out there who are really interested in understanding the process and we’ve already had a lot of people sign up.

"Death, funerals and cremation are very much taboo subjects but by opening our doors we hope to get people talking more about it, because it happens to all of us.

“Anyone interested, but nervous of what they might see, can rest assured that the tours have been properly planned, will be with experienced members of staff and will not show guests anything untoward.”

The crematorium is holding an open morning on Saturday, September 14.

There will be hour-long tours at 10am, 11am and 12pm to anyone interested in seeing how everything works.

Tour members will get to see all aspects of the crematorium, from the new Wesley System which enables the team to display pictures and videos as well as recording and live streaming, to the cremators themselves.
