PAINTED rocks were hidden for families to find, to help raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer.

Organiser Becky Schofield said the event, for the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust, captured the interest of a range of people.

Event supporters painted their own designs on a stone, with hundreds collected and hidden throughout Worcester Woods on Sunday, September 8.

Each stone carries the message: "Facebook: Childhood Cancer on the Rock gkcct.org/knowthesigns."

Organisers had hoped to get 330 painted - that number chosen as its the amount of children diagnosed with childhood cancers every month.

But such was the success there ended up being 450 rocks painted from more than 80 different artists and groups, including Hallow Beavers and the Lawns nursing home.

Mrs Schofield said: "The response from the community was amazing, people kept bringing more and more rocks all morning on Sunday.

"In the end we hid over 450 rocks so it captured the interest of such a range of people.

"Almost 100 pictures have been posted on social media.

"With most finders planning to rehide them they should continue to raise awareness for sometime.

"People also donated very generously so we raised £120 as well."
