BROMSGROVE’S historic market will be going plastic free in an attempt to help win the war on plastic pollution.

The district council has secured funding to produce tote bags which market sellers will be giving out to customers who spend more than a pound on their goods.

To receive a stock of them the traders have signed a pledge that they will not give out plastic bags in the future, and ask their customers to re-use and bring their own.

Council Leader Karen May, whose portfolio covers the town centre, said the the council is signed up to making the district more green.

“With the support of our market traders, we can encourage the hundreds of visitors to our High Street each day, to stop using single-use plastic and instead they can use our tote bags to shop in style," she said.
