A FARM’s plan to build a new events building has finally been approved after months of delays.

Bennetts Farm put forward plans to build a new single-storey modern barn building with outdoor seating at Manor Farm off Malvern Road in Worcester, to be used as a venue for a range of events including weddings, wakes, markets and workshops.

The proposal was approved unanimously by Worcester City Council’s planning committee yesterday.

The committee voted to delay a decision when it met in August to allow the farm to reaffirm where the overspill car park would be. The farm confirmed it would use an existing car park - which is currently used for parking for weddings, the farm’s glamping site and for caravans - to serve the new events building and, if approved, would either get rid of or move the caravan section to free up the whole site for parking.

The farm said the overspill car park would only be used for a few events a year. Highways officers at Worcestershire County Council there were no issues.

The application was originally called in by Councillor Alan Amos, who represents Bedwardine ward where the farm sits, because he said there was no local support for the expansion and it would be a “tragedy” if the concerns of neighbours were not considered.

Cllr Amos did propose the plan was rejected but his plea was refused. He also called for a decision to be delayed again for another month to give residents longer to submit their views on what he called an amendment to the plan.

Cllr Pat Agar said the committee was only discussing the item in order to clarify where overspill parking would be, and the clarification was not a genuine amendment and did not warrant further public consultation.

Several neighbours had raised objections over noise.
