A FUNERAL director in Kidderminster has been named among the best in the UK after inspectors praised the business for its modern approach.

The Good Funeral Guide assessed Attwood Funerals in Marlpool Lane against its strict accreditation criteria, focusing on the quality of the experience offered to bereaved people.

Inspectors also spent time behind the scenes to make sure that those who have died are also cared for with tenderness and respect.

In a review, the independent funeral consumer advocacy organisation wrote: "Mike and Kate are bringing an intelligent, professional and modern kind of funeral directing to the area, and in comparison with them, traditional funeral businesses suddenly appear outdated and staid.

"They are natural, normal and kind, and their work is utterly vocational.”

Charles Cowling, founder of the Good Funeral Guide, said: "Choosing a funeral director can be very difficult because they all look much the same, but they’re not.

"Some, a precious few, are truly outstanding, and Attwood Funerals is one of them.

"Kate and Mike at Attwood Funerals are unsung heroes doing a magnificent job, and the people of Kidderminster deserve to know this.

"Bereaved people need to do their very best for their loved one. They deserve the very best funeral director.”

Inspectors were also impressed with the bright and colourful office, saying "there’s nothing funereal at all about this space".

Responding to the review, Mike Spohrer, who owns the business with his mother Kate, said: "We are really pleased to have received this award, it is my mission to provide a modern, personal and flexible funeral service to the people of the Wyre Forest and surrounding areas."
