A BRAND new bar is opening at the former Chicago’s in Stourbridge where popular footballer Ryan Passey was tragically stabbed to death.

Soda Lounge, promising casual dining and a party venue, officially opens tomorrow Friday, November 22.

The News reported in September that Justice for Ryan campaigners revealed that a new bar would be opening in a Facebook post.

They said in a statement: “We have been assured the new owners are not connected with the previous owners and they made contact with us and the family a few weeks ago to discuss their plans for the building.”

The owners of the venture currently run a successful bar in Cardiff, described as one of the city’s number one nightlife spots.

They have stressed they are aware of the venue’s history and they aim to ensure they deliver a safe and welcoming environment.

A spokesman from Soda Lounge said: "During the daytime, we specialise in serving the perfect coffee, lunch deals and afternoon bites. As we head into the night, we transform into the perfect meet-up party venue, creating the ideal atmosphere for a night of partying, chatting and socialising."

Jason Connon, from the Justice for Ryan campaign, said the building would always be remembered as the place where Ryan lost his life.

Earlier this month a memorial plaque remembering Ryan was unveiled outside the bar.
