Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were called to Eckington Bridge on Thursday morning, after a number of cars became stuck in flood water.

Crews were sent to the stone bridge near Pershore to rescue stricken motorists who had become marooned while attempting to cross the structure.

The bridge was closed on Thursday morning, leading Worcs Highways and Travel to say: "Road Closed' signs are there for a reason - please do not ignore signs & drive through flood water."

Eckington Bridge was reopened to traffic on Friday morning after water levels receded on the River Avon.

The bridge had been closed to vehicles for just over 24 hours after rising waters made it impassable throughout Thursday.

Worcs Highways & Travel posted on Twitter at 10:27am on Friday morning to inform drivers that the bridge would be reopening but warned them to take care when crossing as there was still a lot of water on the road.
