A PEDESTRIAN has died following a collision with a van on a major road in Quinton.

Police were called to reports of a collision between a van and a pedestrian at the junction of Ridgeway Avenue and Hagley Road West, at around 6.15am this morning (Thursday, January 23).

The man, aged 45-years-old, died at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to discover a man, who was the pedestrian, with multiple serious injuries following the collision.

“Ambulance staff performed specialist trauma care and administered advanced life support at the scene.

“However, despite their best efforts, it sadly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The van driver, a man, was uninjured in the incident.”

Police have confirmed that the van driver, a 24-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in custody.

Hagley Road West was closed to traffic travelling from Birmimgham.

An investigation into the collision is now underway.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We’ve launched an investigation into the circumstances of this collision.

“I’d ask anyone who saw what happened and hasn’t already spoken to us, to contact me or my team as soon as possible.

“A man has sadly lost his life, his family have been informed and our specialist officers will provide support to them.
