A SECONDARY school has been nominated for a Worcestershire Education Award.

Bishop Perowne CE College has been nominated for Secondary School of the Year.

Richard Eaton, who nominated the school – where he has two children – in Merrimans Hill Road, Worcester, said: “I have always been impressed by the professional manner of all the staff here.

“Any issues are dealt with sensitively, professionally and promptly. My two are very happy here and both are thriving socially, academically and personally.”

Mr Eaton added: “The senior leadership team and the individual subject teachers at this school are fully committed to every individual pupil, regardless of their academic ability.

“Every student is regarded as an individual and is encouraged to be the best they can. Discipline and behaviour at the school is excellent, with many pupils taking great pride in being a member of the school.

“Pupils are regularly recognised for good academic, sporting or social achievement, with various award ceremonies over the school year.”

Headteacher, Mark Pollard said: “It’s lovely to know that we have been nominated again - and for the second year in a row by a parent. All the staff at Bishop Perowne, I know, are completely dedicated to going the extra mile for students and working hard to support, inspire and care for the young people we work with. It’s very much a joint effort from everyone.

“Securing the rapid improvement in recent years has required us to pull together as a team to create an environment where students can flourish and excel academically."

“Our students now consistently make positive progress in GCSE exams each year and we are very proud of this achievement for our students. We haven’t rested on our laurels though; since September, we have endeavoured to add to the academic success by providing students with many more opportunities beyond lessons.”

“We now have a flourishing house system, more clubs after school than ever before, and a programme of cultural capital visits for all students to enjoy.

Mr Eaton praised The Cultural Capital programme which gives students the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom. Through visits and exchanges, students learn to appreciate such things as the arts, architecture, and different cultures whilst learning valuable life skills.

There are 13 categories in this year's education awards, which are organised by the Worcester News in partnership with the University of Worcester. Finalists will be invited to a ceremony at the University Arena on June 25, where winners will be announced. See worcesternews.co.uk/awards to nominate.
