WYCHAVON District Council will fly the rainbow flag all weekend as Worcestershire Pride returns
A motion put forward by councillors Dan Boatright and Ed Cohen was passed at the meeting on February 19.
The flag will fly over the Civic Centre in Pershore over the weekend of September 19 and 20 and every pride weekend thereafter.
Cllr Boatright said “Both the Liberal Democrats and Green Party have a long tradition of supporting LGBT+ communities and we are very proud to have proposed this motion to promote our local Pride event and show support for Wychavon LGBT+ people."
Recent Stonewall surveys showed that over half of LGBT people said they had experienced depression in the last year, one in five LGBT people had experienced a hate crime or incident in the past year, and one in eight LGBT people aged 18-24 said they had attempted to take their own lives.
