BUILDING work looks set to begin on a mix of new homes and flats in Redditch town centre.

Victoria Works, which lies between Britten Street and Edward Street, used to house a redundant factory.

It once was home to some of the country's finest needle and tackle companies.

Now however, it is set to be split into two main areas - a southern block, featuring 49 one and two bedroomed apartments, and a northern area comprising 26 town houses.

The Advertiser reported last year that Redditch would be getting a share of £410,000 to help revamp the area around the town's rail station.

The cash will be spent on new housing and regeneration around the station, as part of the Rail Quarter development.

The investment was announced by Central Government as part of the One Public Estate (OPE) Programme, first launched in 2013.

The programme ensures the better use of public sector land and property, improving services and freeing up space for new homes.
