A FOOTBALL club is helping a talented young sports therapist pursue her dreams.

Malvern Town Football Club took on Laura Whitehead in 2017 and she has become an invaluable part of the club.

In September last year Laura started a masters degree in Physiotherapy to further her abilities in the field and in the summer of 2021 she will be spending a month in Yogyakarta, Indonesia providing physiotherapy to members of the local community whilst learning about the economic and cultural aspects of physio in a developing country.

To help raise funds towards the trip, Malvern Town will be staging a Family Fun Day at the HDANYWHERE Community Stadium on Saturday, May 30.

It will include a match between the current first-team and a Malvern Town Old Boys XI plus live music from The River Rea Duo.

There will also be a mini five-a-side, Beat the Goalie in fancy dress, cake stall, Tombola, bouncy castle, raffle, gallon of beer and a BBQ.

Entry will be £3 and free for under-16s.

Having graduated with a BSc in Sports Therapy from Leeds Beckett in 2017, The Hillsiders provided Laura with her first industry job to go alongside a private practise which she set up.

She paid tribute to the club's friendly atmosphere, saying: "The whole place is like one big family and I was welcomed with open arms right from the start.

"To be honest, I wasn't really into football before I started at the club, but being involved over these past few years, you get so involved in it all and my highs and lows come from how well the team is doing.

"There is plenty of togetherness within the group; we’re always happy to support each other. I do feel like a mum to the players at times, though, especially when I'm nagging them about doing their rehab exercises, but we can all have a laugh together, which is important."
