AN estate agency in Droitwich has been put in charge of major new works in Worcester.

Nicol & Co has been appointed to sell Iceworks, the 54-apartment redevelopment of a 19th century watermill.

This historic property has stood derelict on the edge of Worcester for many years, but the six-storey building, a former flourmill which became an Ice Manufactory in the 1900s, is now being renovated into an apartment complex with two additional blocks being constructed to the rear.

Matt Nicol, managing director of Nicol & Co, said: “We’re delighted that our New Homes team has been appointed to market Iceworks.

“We’re both grateful for the opportunity and proud to have been chosen and are looking forward to starting work on the project.

“As well as providing much needed two-bedroomed accommodation in Worcester, this is a development with a number of environmentally friendly features such as ground source heat pumps which will provide heating to all apartments.”

The Iceworks development is the brainchild of local builder Kelvin Sparrey who has had a hand in the renovation of a number of important local buildings.

His vision was to bring together local investors, property professionals and most importantly, local tradesmen, to return a landmark local heritage site to prominence, and to showcase local enterprise and skills.

Phase one consists of the two new apartment blocks which are currently under construction and are scheduled to complete in the early summer.

They will feature nine apartments with two bedrooms and one bathroom over three floors in the first new building, with twelve such apartments over four floors in the other.

Phase two will then see the former flour mill on the Bromyard Road in St Johns, Worcester, converted into 33 apartments, all with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

With lifts to all floors, the development will appeal to all ages, including downsizers and the lock up and leave generation who spend part of the year abroad, as well as young professionals and couples looking for a home near to the city.

Nicol & Co has offices in Droitwich and Worcester with a third office in Malvern expected to open this year.

In 2019, the company was recognised as one of the top 3 per cent of estate agents in the country in a leading property guide, the acclaimed Best Estate Agent Guide.
