THE doors to the Headway Worcestershire Wellbeing Centres might be temporarily closed, but the charity is still in business.

Headway Worcestershire is adapting its services to continue to fight on the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic, providing vital support to the vulnerable adults it cares for.

Tracie Finnegan, deputy director of Headway Worcestershire, said: “We're busy adapting to a new way of working, using our Outreach services to ensure that all of our clients have everything they need whilst isolating.

"We are coordinating shopping deliveries, meal and care package provision, medication delivery, and increasing our over-the-phone support, whilst taking all necessary precautions to keep our clients and staff protected from infection.”

The charity, which ordinarily provides care for around 200 survivors of acquired brain injury each week, is appealing to its local community to help bring some joy and entertainment to its service users.

Ms Finnegan added: “It is imperative that we continue to engage our clients and stimulate their minds during their time in isolation. Not only to support their rehabilitation, but also to maintain their mental wellbeing and keep anxiety and depression at bay.

"We’d love to receive messages of positive thoughts and good will from our supporters to pass on to our clients. Maybe your children might like to write a letter or draw some pictures, or perhaps local adults with spare time might send some kind words or simple poems? We need your positivity to keep our clients upbeat, and to reassure them that they’re not alone in this difficult time.”

All letters and drawings can be emailed to Gemma at GTimmis@hwtl.org.uk, where they will be printed and included in care packages or shared online (please give permission when submitting communications).

The charity is facing difficult times financially, due to the cancellation of all its vital fundraising events and indefinite closure of its charity shop.

Mandie Fitzgerald, fundraising manager said: "We are also asking our supporters to help us by making a donation online, if they are able to do so, at www.headwayworcestershire.org.uk/donate. Even the price of a morning coffee, a Saturday night beer or the money saved on the daily commute would be a very welcome contribution.

"We rely on the generosity and support of our wonderful local community now more than ever, and appreciate every penny as it will make all the difference to us in these tough times. Thank you once again for standing by us.”
