Who are you? We are the finest creative communications company in the West Midlands, the pride of The Black Country.

When did you open and why? We opened in 1988 to supply registration cards to hotels.

Tell us about your business: We are a complete creative agency which means we do design, branding, printing, websites, marketing, social media, SEO, promotional merchandise, branded clothing, exhibition and display graphics and signage: internal, external and vehicle. It is very unusual for an agency to offer all these services and do it well.

How did you decide on the name? When we decided the name, the business offered six services, we were like a single object with six sides all connected by colour so hence Colour Cubed.

Who works there? There’s 11 of us who work here including five in our studio creating beautiful brands and wonderful websites.

Who are your customers? Many of our customers are still hotels including major groups such as Jurys Inn. These national brands like to use Colour Cubed because they get London agency quality at Black Country prices. We also have many prestigious local clients such as Millennium Point, Library of Birmingham, Town Hall Symphony Hall and Birmingham Repertory Theatre as well as many ‘normal’ customers here in the Black Country.

What’s your most memorable / proudest moment in business? The most memorable and proud moment recently was when we sponsored the Bob Marley exhibition at The Library of Birmingham which coincided with the premier of the Bob Marley musical at The Birmingham REP which was a fabulous production to be involved with.

Have you had any strange/ quirky suggestions or stories from customers? One of our Black Country engineering clients asked us to design an exhibition stand that looked like an olde English country pub which would stand out at a German engineering exhibition. They planned to lure visitors onto their stand with English beer and pork scratchings but changed their minds at the last minute and asked for a space ship instead.

What are your ambitions for the future? At the moment we are developing a new service; augmented reality, which will make the things we design and print come alive on the page. We have great plans for this and we are currently working with Halesowen College to introduce augmented reality as a way of engaging students in STEM subjects and making their work come alive – watch this space, this could be the most exciting thing to happen in the Black Country for years!
