AS EXPECTED when our reporter went out for a walk around the city centre, it was empty and eerily silent.

Almost all stores were shut with signs in the windows reading "we'll be back soon" or "all items of value have been removed."

Boots is open for those needing the pharmacy, WhSmiths is open for now and so are a handful of other stores providing food, medicines or other essential services.

St. Richards Hospice has closed all its stores.

The hospice gave this statement last week: "With a heavy heart, we have taken the decision to temporarily close our shop and Snowdrops Café in St Swithin’s Street, Worcester, along with all 18 other shops and our warehouse in Worcestershire. This is to protect staff, volunteers, donors and customers from the spread of coronavirus.

"We have the most fantastic support from the people of Worcestershire and we very much look forward to welcoming everyone back when the government advises it is safe to open our doors once again."
