IT has been interesting reading the various thoughts of different people criticising the government for its response to coronavirus.

While it is true that the government may have acted too slowly, they were only going off the advice available to them at the time.

All I would say to the people calling for the Prime Minister's head is this: How would you deal with coronavirus?

It is easy to sit on the sidelines and say the government should do x, y or z, but in reality we don't have to face the consequences of our ideas.

They have more than 65 million people to keep alive, and have to balance every decision with the needs of the population.

All Boris Johnson and his cabinet can do is listen to the advice of the scientists and doctors. Could they have acted quicker? maybe, but that is with the benefit of hindsight.

There is valid criticism of the government's response to coronavirus when it comes to ventilators and PPE, but we have to consider the fact this is an unprecedented public health crisis.

A government can plan for pandemics, but the truth is no one knows what will be needed until the crisis arrives. Did anyone know we would need thousands of ventilators in January? Was anyone expecting to need huge amounts of face masks and hand sanitizer back then?

I'm not saying the government is blameless, they certainly could have done more, but it is too simplistic to simply savage them for their mistakes.

I certainly hold no candle to Boris Johnson or his government... or politicians in general for that matter, but it is a hugely complex task figuring out how a whole country should respond to coronavirus.

I would argue this government has done about as much as any government could in the circumstances, with information and advice constantly changing.

Our government has made mistakes, but the response has been a heck of a lot better than the US government's response. I would rather the government launched a slightly flawed response than deny the virus exists, then deny how bad it is, then realise it needs to act only when hundreds start dying.

Responding to crises like this is immeasurably difficult. Yes the government has made mistakes, but what would you do?
