A GORNAL family are boosting morale on their street by holding a driveway disco to give thanks to the NHS.

Dave and Sue Coyne held a disco on their driveway on Bird Street ahead of the second 'Clap For Our Carers' event on Thursday, with neighbours flocking to their doorsteps to dance and applaud NHS heroes and key workers.

In normal times the pair DJ at weekends, so they decided to put their kit to good use during the lockdown to encourage community spirit during the now weekly applause for the NHS.

Last week they lit up their house on Bird Street blue in honour for the NHS and this week they brought some music to their street to raise a smile for their neighbours during the lockdown.

Dave said: "The main purpose is all about trying to rally the neighbourhood up and support all the people who are doing great work at the moment.

"In these tough times we just want to make people smile and support the NHS."

It is a cause close to Dave's heart as his sister works for the NHS and may be drafted to the new Nightingale Hospital that has been urgently built to treat coronavirus patients.

The pair played inspirational songs in the build up to the applause, and then encouraged the whole street to sing along to 'You Will Never Walk Alone'.

They also had a screen projecting positive messages to the the NHS and key workers.

Dave said he hopes the event will give neighbours something to look forward to in these difficult days.

He added: "We have great neighbours, we have been speaking to them over the fence. They have given us their full support."

Dave hopes to continue with the driveway disco every Thursday to accompany the national Clap For Our Carers event as long his neighbours enjoy it.
