A RESCUE greyhound needs a second operation after neighbours say it was attacked by another dog in a Kidderminster park.

Four-year-old Irish greyhound Lola suffered bite wounds to her chest, neck and legs, after being injured by a dog which was allegedly off its lead in Baxter Gardens on May 13.

Police initially put out an appeal to trace the owner following what they described as a "dog on dog incident", and later confirmed words of advice had been given.

Officers posted on social media to say the injured dog's owner, who remains anonymous, had been updated and was happy with the police action.

Now, neighbours of Lola's owner in Kidderminster have set up a fundraising page to help pay for her veterinary treatment, which they say will involve another operation costing in the region of £2,000.

Gina Harper and her partner, who launched the fundraising appeal, were walking Lola that day as a favour for the dog's elderly owner, who had recently broken a hip.

According to Gina, Lola was muzzled at the time of the incident.

She said: "It just happened really quick.

"We had discussed whether to go into the paddock as there was already another dog in there, but they had been in each other's company a few weeks before with no problems.

"The attack was really bad - it ripped some of her skin away from muscle.

"The wound on her chest was particularly bad - it was about the size of the palm of your hand. The vet had to put drains in.

"It was really horrendous. We didn’t know if she was going to survive."

Gina said Lola is recovering well from her first surgery, but will need to undergo a second operation with general anaesthetic and revisit the vet regularly for check-ups.

Neighbours have already rallied round to donate £440 towards Lola's vet bills, and Gina has now set up a fundraising page to help raise £1,500 to help pay for her ongoing treatment.

She said: "Lola's owner is very hard to accept help but it's not fair for her to have to pay all of this on her own.

"She's a pensioner who lives on her own. She didn't have pet insurance and we've had no sign of contribution from the other dog owner.

"Lola's treatment is ongoing so she will have to pay out more money every time she goes back."
