FIREFIGHTERS from Redditch and across the county battled a rapidly spreading wildfire yesterday (Sunday, May 31).

Crews from Cleobury Mortimer, Redditch and Droitwich fire stations responded to a forest fire at Tanners Hill, Wyre Forest after the alarm was raised in the afternoon.

Firefighters and a total of nine engines worked through the afternoon to bring the 1.5 hectare wildfire, which had been rapidly spreading due to the wind, under control.

A spokesperson from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue said there is "no indication of any investigation" and there wasn't "anything suspicious" about the fire.

Redditch Advertiser:

This comes after firefighters across the country dealt with incidents involving out of control barbecue fires at the weekend.

The service says the fire "does not appear" to be one of those cases, but advised people to take extra special care.

"Anybody wishing to a have a barbecue should do this at there own home", the fire service said.

"Glasses and tins can also set off fires as well so be vigilant and careful."

The damping down of the fire continued through the night, with crew closely monitoring the forest area. The incident was officially closed this morning.
