I’m all for the right to protest.

After all, this right is given to many of us, who take it for granted, but in some countries people have literally died trying to stand up and be counted.

However, the scenes during the Black Lives Matter rally in London at the weekend sickened me on many levels.

I understand their reaction against the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black American at the hands of police, the very people who should have protected him, in Minneapolis.

That incident sickened me too.

I get why people are angry but protesters don’t seem to engage logic.

Despite officials warning against rallies, still thousands descended on London, as well as other major cities around the world, ignoring the fact that we are in the midst of a global existential threat with the virus we all know the name of.

Why?

Surely, tarnishing all people of a certain race or group is a little bit...prejudicial?

It seems that BLM protesters don’t care about anyone regardless of ethnicity and they just care about their own ‘virtue signalling’.

Is this really the maturity of the human race in 2020?

A number of years ago, protesters for the same movement blocked roads near to Heathrow Airport causing chaos.

To what end?

I’m sure Mr Floyd would be outraged about how rallies being held around the world - with reported instances of looting as well - were being held in his name and how during his wake, with him at the back of the stage in his coffin, speakers were rallying the audience around racial hatred.

Yes, there’s good and bad in all walks of life but let’s all just treat each other as humans - the people who are truly racist will not be swayed from their beliefs by public gatherings.
