PLANS to create a new graveyard, allotments and orchard in a village have been put forward.

Badsey and Aldington Parish Council has three plans for land off Willersey Road in Badsey including 30 new allotments, more burial space and a new community orchard.

The parish council will use government New Homes Bonus money to pay for the new facilities.

The allotments would created at top of the site, the burial ground towards the south west and the community orchard would along the east of the land.

The parish council said the extra burial space is much-needed as the churchyard at St James Church in the village is already full. It expects around 12 burials to be made each year.

Two car parks would also be built, one for the burial ground and allotments and the other for the community orchard, according to plans submitted to Wychavon District Council.

Several villagers have already submitted comments to the council welcoming the plans.

Carolyn Worth of Seward Road said: "The graveyard is too full now and it's great that people who want to be buried in Badsey will be able to. The other amenities will be a real asset to the village."

Louise Ellison of Manor Close said: "A new burial ground is desperately needed now that the churchyard has no burial plots left. Allotments would provide the local community with a way of growing their own food and as a traditional market gardening village, will be in keeping with the heritage of Badsey."

The plans can be viewed via the planning section of thee council's website. The application number is 20/00940/CU.
