A child was rushed to hospital in an ambulance after being hit by a car in Powick this afternoon.

The girl was hit by the vehicle on the A449, and sustained serious injuries police say.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "Officers received a call from a member of the public at 3pm today (Thursday 24 June) reporting that a child had been struck by a vehicle. The incident happened on the A449 in Powick, near Powyke Court Close.

"The child has been taken to hospital with serious injuries."

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service added: “We were called by the fire service at 3:02pm to a collision involving a car and pedestrian at the junction of Powyke Court Close and Old Malvern Road in Worcester. We sent one ambulance and a critical care car to the scene. We’ve treated one patient, a girl, for injuries not believed to be life threatening before taking her to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further treatment.”

The road was closed while emergency services attended the scene and reopened at just after 4pm.
