A GROUP of travellers were ordered off private land in Redditch yesterday.
Police moved the group on from land near Terry's Close on Thursday afternoon (June 25) after serving a Section 61 Notice.
Inspector Dave King said: “On Thursday morning (25 June) representatives from Worcestershire County Council instructed a group of travellers on a piece of private land on Terry’s Close, Redditch, to leave. The Notice from the Council was not adhered to so West Mercia Police then served those present with a Section 61 Notice. This is a direction from the police to leave the site.
"Local officers remained until all those present had moved on.”
A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson added: "Officers from the Gypsy Service Team have visited the site on Wednesday 24 June to carry out a welfare check in line with our policy for dealing with unauthorised encampments.
"The County Council served the travellers with a notice to leave on Thursday morning, working with our police colleagues throughout this process. The travellers have now vacated the site.”
