WEST Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has urged constituents to show their support for hospitality and tourism businesses as the county recovers from the Covid-19 lockdown.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a series of new measures which will allow pubs and restaurants to reopen while continuing to prevent the spread of the virus.

Mrs Baldwin offered her support for local business which are currently working on plans to re-open and she pledged to meet with a range of local venues across her constituency to see the challenges of re-starting first-hand.

There are 590 hospitality and tourism businesses in West Worcestershire and Mrs Baldwin says she has been in close touch with many business owners to help them access Government schemes to protect jobs and livelihoods.

She said: “The hospitality industry has been badly affected by the lockdown and although many companies have been able to protect jobs in the short term, there is a huge desire that they are able to welcome back customers.

“Tourism is also a crucial part of the local economy and I welcome the fact that people will be able to make trips to attractions and other tourist destinations from July 4."

Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden, added: “This is a significant moment for the UK’s fantastic tourism and hospitality businesses and the bounce back can now begin on July 4th.

“Across the country people have been looking forward to taking a day trip, weekend break or staycation following their efforts in lockdown over the past three months.

“Britain deserves a break and I hope people get out, support tourism businesses and enjoy a break safely.”
