A NEW Footbridge is being built at a site alongside the Powick roundabout.

Worcester Highways have confirmed once the structure has been finished the foot and cycle bridge will be installed across the A4440 Hams Way.

Worc Highways and Travel tweeted: "The new footbridge and cycle bridge is being fabricated in the site compound at # Powick - the bridge will be installed across A4440 Hams Way near to Powick Roundabout later this year as part of the Southern Link Road project."

The work on the Southern Link Road is being done to dual the entire length of the A4440 from the M5 to the Powick roundabout. The Worcester Southern Link Road, is one of Worcestershire's busiest roads, accessed by over 30,000 cars each week day.

The road is also an important bypass to the city centre and provides one of only two road crossings of the River Severn in Worcester City.

The Southern Link works have been delayed significantly since the Department for Transport (DfT) announced in November 2017 that £54.5million of funding had been secured for a new bridge and viaduct to be built between Ketch and Powick roundabouts.

The final phase of the scheme (phase 4) is now in progress and completion is due in 2021, however works were halted in March due to the coronavirus.
