AN 11-year-old girl has spent lockdown teaching her grandad how to bake over video calls.

Immy Reeves decided to show her 76-year-old grandad, Barry Briscoe, how to bake in order to surprise his wife, Lorraine with a homemade birthday cake.

Since lockdown, the pair have met every Friday via Face Time.

Mr Briscoe had never baked before, however, he can now successfully bake everything from chocolate éclairs, bread, lemon drizzle, cheese straws to Swiss rolls.

Immy’s mum, Kirsten Reeves, said: “It has been an absolute joy hearing them together laughing and chatting every week for the last three months when they haven’t been able to see each other in person properly.

“The fun and laughter from the kitchen has been contagious and the results amazing and absolutely delicious.

“It’s been the highlight of dad’s life during lockdown.

“My dad would usually be keeping himself busy playing cricket, so it has made such a difference to him during lockdown, baking with Immy.”

As a result of this, the passionate young baker organised a bake sale which was held on Friday outside the family’s Worcester home.

Social distancing measures and additional hygiene measures were in place.

After setting a £50 target, she has managed to raise £1,137 so far for The Alzheimer’s Society - a charity close to the family’s hearts.

Mrs Reeves said: “She spent all week baking and made an incredible amount of cakes for it, as had her grandad.

“It was amazing, we had people queuing down the road. It was just unbelievable.

“Her and my dad have a close relationship. It’s so sweet.

“My dad popped along first thing to see Immy, but because he didn’t want to expose himself to many people he didn’t stay long. Immy has always been passionate about baking. She really enjoys it.”

Her school friend, Tilly Waller, also helped with the bake sale. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/kirsten-reeves
