DROITWICH Lido is able to reopen tomorrow, but swimmers will have to wait till next month as preparations to be Covid-19 secure are made.

Regional manager for Wychavon Leisure, Tim Kirkham said yesterday's announcement outdoor pools could reopen had come as a shock, so sadly they could not reopen straight away.

Mr Kirkham said: "It's good to have some good news.

"We will reopen on August 1, hopefully earlier.

Pool covers need to come off, we have to get our water tested - we have started making inroads into that operation.

"When we return it will be very different. We are going to have to make some quite drastic changes.

"Normally, on a nice day we could have 550 people but because of Covid-19 we will have between 80 and 100 allowed in the pool.

"Everybody will have to sit apart. Everybody will have to book online, and we will have sessions, with cleaning in between."

Freedom Leisure, which runs Perdiswell Leisure Centre and Malvern Splash that have indoor swimming pools, welcomed the announcement those could reopen on July 25.

In a statement on what to expect at their swimming pools Freedom Leisure said: “You will have to adhere to new social distancing guidelines in our swimming pool changing rooms, the poolside and the water itself.

"We will have an enhanced cleaning regime. There will be hand sanitising stations. We ask you to be respectful of all other people in the facility and to keep your distance.”
