COLWALL Cricket Club bid for a National Village Knockout Cup quarter-final place at StoweLane on Sunday.

In-form batsman and captain James Abel returns from holiday to line up against Rolleston who defeated league rivals Elvaston by six wickets in the previous round last weekend.

A brilliant 123 from Tom Coleman inspired Herefordshire champions Colwall to a thrilling win with just one ball to spare at Barby from Northamptonshire in the first national stage.

“After a dramatic runchase in the last round, everyone hopes this match will be as thrilling,” said Colwall president Adrian Berry.

“We have once reached the semi-final and the quarterfinal — both when I was captain. The semi-final was more than 20 years ago when we lost to the team that went on to win the cup.

“This will be the biggest game for aboutthree seasons after our relegation last year from Worcestershire League Division One.”

Sunday’s last-16 tie will start at 1pm and is a 40- overs-a-side affair with a limitation of nine overs per bowler. Bar facilities and refreshments for spectators will be available from noon.

Colwall should be at full strength with a number of players returning from holiday, including Abel.

Waiting for the winners in the next round will be either Worcestershire champions Astwood Bank or Warwickshire’sWater Orton.
