WEST Malvern put points on the board with an 18-run victory over Rushwick in Worcestershire Indoor Cricket League Worcester Division Two.

Wides were second-top scorers in both innings when the bowlers put the batsmen under little pressure.

But surprisingly few runs were scored as West’s 109-5 was followed by 91-3 from Rushwick.

West started well by putting on 50 through Kevin Gilbert (20) and Pete O’Connell (43 not out), who were separated by a run-out.

The innings went into a period of decline alleviated almost entirely by O’Connell’s efforts and wides.

However, they scrambled over the 100 mark and into respectability by taking 16 from the final over by Matt Champion, who claimed 2-27.

Rushwick’s response was not immediate, losing their first wicket in the opening over and cobbling together 24 in the first four.

Wides were still on the side of the batsmen as West conceded 22 compared to Rushwick’s 25.

Chris Colley (27no) was top scorer, supported by Wayne Newman (14) and Dan Hughes (16), but they remained behind the rate throughout.

Martley (137-3) lost to Old Vigornians (138-4) with one ball remaining in the other game.

In Division One, Eastnor (83-5) lost to Cutnall Green (84-1) with four overs left.

Eastnor’s batsmen failed to impose themselves on Green’s reliable bowling.

After a bad start, losing Tareq Jamil and Ben Febery within nine balls, Raheel Loan (29no) and Clive Chadhani (24) hit back slowly.

Chadhani was run-out in the 10th over and Loan scored at a slower rate but did manage 18 from his last seven balls.

Green accumulated 61-1 at the end of the seventh over before Neil Evans (16no) and Matt Harris (29no) took 22 from the eighth to complete a comfortable victory.

Avoncroft (107-4) lost to Old Elizabethans (110-3) with one ball remaining in the other clash in the division.
