LEDBURY seconds’ poor start to the Marches Cricket League Division Three season continued with a six-wicket loss at rivals Bosbury.

The day had not started well when Ledbury’s captain lost his third successive toss of the season on a damp wicket without much pace or bounce.

Ledbury got off to a slow, but steady, start through openers Rob Yeoman (20) and Richard Orders (35).

They were supported by Brandon Caffull (25) against consistent bowling from the opening attack of Harry Evans (3-16) and Jamie Lovell (3-40).

Bosbury had key support from Jon Henry (1-11) and captain George Abbey (3-30).

But Ledbury’s lower order fell away from a solid 80-2 to 146 all out with four overs left.

Bosbury’s chase got off to a positive start through openers Lovell (20) and, especially, Roy Bettington.

The former Ledbury player scored a match-winning 56 with flowing shots all around the wicket, but fell just before the end to Simon Ritchie (2-43).

Bosbury got over the line with seven overs to spare as Adam Gwilliam added 32.

Caffull claimed his first senior wicket through a bizarre dismissal.

Ledbury seconds look to get their season started tomorrow at home to Strollers (1pm).
