LEDBURY’s ladies touch rugby team secured a creditable second place in the first of four ‘Super Sunday’ tournaments.

With 12 sides split into three pools, Ledbury came out firing, defeating Redditch 3-1, Stratford 5-1 and Balsall and Coventrians 5-0.

Fine opening running from Annie Hunter, Anna Beagles, Nicola Wall and Helen Townsend saw Ledbury reap the rewards as they ran in 13 tries – the most scored by any side in the pool stages.

The whole squad were playing some of their best rugby this season showing the continued improvement they are making.

But in the battle for the top three positions Ledbury showed rivals Pershore too much respect in a 3-1 defeat.

Ledbury responded in superb style in the next play-off match with a magnificent 5-1 win over Wellesbourne.

But in the final reckoning Pershore deservedly won the day with Ledbury finishing runners-up.

Coach David Spiller said: “The whole squad can be very proud of their achievement.

“We have a few things to work on but for a team that has only come together in the last 12 months they are improving in leaps and bounds.”
