MALVERN Triathlon Club’s Malachi Cashmore finished 29th in the British Triathlon Youth Super Series final.

The 15-year-old was at Mallory Park as a wild card and ranked 75th on entry.

On exiting his 400-metre open-water swim, he was sixth in his wave.

Following a quick transition he was fourth out on the bike and gained enough ground over the 10 kilometres to go in front of his group.

Cashmore completed his 2.5km run second in his wave for a time of 32 minutes 59 seconds and 29th position overall.

Six Malvern members entered the annual big swim at Langorse Lake in the Brecon Beacons.

Maria Dineen and Gary Lambert, swimming the 6km, completed in 2.06 and 2.06.17 while Lorraine Brooks and David Dutton did the 4.5km in 1.59 and 1.59.14 respectively.

Andrew Rickard completed the 3km in 1.16.57 and Mark Turner the 1.5km in 33.15.

Dutton also competed in the Newent Sprint Triathlon, finishing in 1.00 for 14th out of 200.

In Shropshire, Lucy Bennett-Poole, 45, and Ruth Johnstone, 51, battled driving rain and 30mph wind gusts to take first place in their respective age categories and sixth and third overall women respectively in the Shropshire Middle Distance Triathlon.

Johnstone completed the 1.5km swim, 56-mile bike and half-marathon run in 5.00 and Bennett-Poole did 5.09.
