A REMARKABLE second-half fightback saw Ledbury Town come from 3-0 down to beat Westfields Reserves 5-3 and book their place in the quarter-finals of the Herefordshire FA Charity Bowl.

Ledbury, who reached the final of the competition last season, looked set to exit at the first round stage as they faced a three-goal half-time deficit at New Street.

But whatever was said in the changing room by player-manager Pat Locke worked wonders as Ledbury turned the tie on its head.

Three goals in the space of eight minutes saw Town draw level as Curt Williams got his side off the mark before Tom Boyle bagged a brace

A late double from Dwayne Tyndale then secured a memorable triumph for Ledbury who will visit Hinton in the last eight.

Town created the opening chance as striker Harri John sent his shot just shy of the near post.

But Ledbury’s crossbar was rattled twice in quick succession before Westfields opened the scoring on 33 minutes when a fortuitous deflection enabled an attacker to race straight through and fire the ball into the bottom corner.

Moments later James Loader pushed a shot wide but he was guilty of taking his eye off the ball as Westfields slotted it into the empty net.

Town suffered a further blow in first half stoppage time when the ball was lofted over the head of Loader for a third goal.

Barely a minute into the second half the ball was struck narrowly over Ledbury’s crossbar providing little in the way of reassurance that the hosts could salvage something from the game.

In need of a change Locke switched to a 3-4-3 formation – and it soon made a difference as a superb cross was finished in great style by Williams.

After a Westfields header went narrowly wide of the target, Boyle notched a quick-fire double to level at 3-3.

Ledbury were now on top and with 10 minutes left Boyle was felled in the box before Tyndale run up and smashed the ball home.

Tyndale then provided the icing on the cake by lobbing the keeper in the dying moments.

Meanwhile, Sam Branch and Ian Bennett got on the scoresheet as Ledbury Town Reserves drew 2-2 with Shobdon in Division One.
