DEFENDING champion Dave Turner won The Worcestershire's Meredith Cup over 36 holes.

He beat Richard Day, who was in his first final, 6&4 in the singles match-play knockout for players with a handicap of 21 or less.

In the ladies' Perrins Cup knockout 36-hole final, Sue Wood, who joined the club and gained a handicap in 2017, beat the experienced Mary Horrobin 6&5.

On a cold and windy day at Minchinhampton, the seniors suffered their heaviest defeat of the season.

Captain Andy Peet and John Green lost the final hole but there was success for James Noon and Roger Blackwell 5&4 and John Davison and Barry Caswell recorded a half.

But Andrew Whiteley and Dave Anderson fell 7&6, Stan Jones and Ron Barker 6&5, Allan Davies and Robin Marling 5&4, Andrew Colston and Les Facer 3&2 and Ron Gordon and Terry Cox 2&1.

In ladies' competitions, Jackie Marks waited patiently for the course to open after overnight rain before winning the Doug Cotton Rosebowl with 77 nett.

Norma Pottinger triumphed in the nine-hole stableford and Diane Meakin partnered newcomer Denise Codrington to claim the four-ball better-ball with 40 points.

Oliver Kitching won the midweek stableford with 40 points.

In the Ladies' County Team Championships, Kidderminster won the gross and nett prize with The Worcestershire finishing second and third respectively.

Cathy Harris, Diane Meakin, Ursula Pearson and Jackie Marks played for the Malvern Wells club.

The Worcestershire hosted a team from Minchinhampton in another close clash.

Ralph Kelsall and Cuth McDowell won 4&2 and new player Harry Breakwell and Will Jones two-up in a 3-3 draw.
