BOSS Paul Collicutt hopes the “happy-go-lucky” nature of net-busting brothers Cory and Kye Simpson can give Evesham United a timely lift.

Cory was snapped up over the summer before Kye joined the Robins at the start of this month and both bagged braces in Saturday’s 4-4 draw at home to Highworth Town.

It marked a dramatic upturn in fortunes for ex-Mangotsfield United frontrunner Kye who got sent off on his debut as a second-half substitute against Thatcham six days previously.

They are two of seven Bristol-based siblings, five of whom play semi-professional football with 30-year-old Troy plying his trade at Evesham’s Southern League Division One South rivals Bristol Manor Farm.

And on the back of a testing few weeks at the Jubilee Stadium, Collicutt reckons the pair’s zest on and off the pitch could prove influential.

“The thing that certainly stands out is neither of them stops smiling,” said Collicutt.

“Both lads have such a positive way about them. They are happy-go-lucky characters.

“I knew about Kye from last season when we played Mangotsfield. It was pretty evident he had talent and we kept an eye on him.

“He stood out against us in our first home game of the season. It was the game before we went to Rugby Town in the FA Cup, their manager was watching and remarked how he had been impressed by him.

“From there he got a couple of goals for Mangotsfield and quickly broke his duck here.

“Now we will see what happens after Kye’s suspension. I hear it was only the second sending off in his career, he doesn’t come across as a problematic person and the way both boys go about things has impressed me so far.

“If we can get the best out of the two of them then who knows what they can achieve?”

Evesham do not play on Saturday with scheduled opponents Winchester City involved in the FA Cup.

The following weekend had been blank too but the league trip to Moneyfields has been brought forward to Saturday, October 27 instead of the final weekend before Christmas.

“This weekend gives us the chance to get over one or two knocks but we didn’t want to go the two weeks without a fixture and it will be important to keep the lads ticking over in the meantime,” added Collicutt.
