GEORGE Forsyth could be set to retain a midfield berth and the team captaincy at Worcester City.

The 22-year-old donned the armband at Sporting Khalsa after club skipper Jordan Stoddart, previously ever present in the league, had been relegated to the bench.

Stoddart returned for Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over Bromsgrove Sporting that earned a place in the Worcestershire Senior Urn final but Forsyth again led out the side.

Asked whether that meant a permanent change in on-field general, assistant manager Ashley Vincent ruled nothing out but insisted Stoddart would continue in his club post and argued it should make little difference.

“Stodds came out of the team, we wanted a reaction and felt like we got one. Jordan was fantastic against Bromsgrove as was Foz in midfield,” said Vincent.

“We felt like getting Foz into midfield would allow us to utilise his passing skills better farther up the pitch and he had led the side on Saturday. We didn’t see the need to change anything in that respect.

“Jordan is the club captain so regardless of who wears the armband, I don’t expect it to be difficult for anyone. I expect them both to be leaders, which they have been from the start of the season.”

Centre-half Grant Horton, on work experience from Cheltenham Town, retained his place at the heart of City’s defence in midweek, allowing Forsyth to excel as an anchoring midfielder.

“One of Foz’s problems is that he is such a good player, he has had to fill in at different positions,” added Vincent.

“We brought in Grant from Cheltenham who I know really well but he only turned 17 the other week.

“To be playing against the likes of Sporting Khalsa and Bromsgrove Sporting has been brilliant for his development but there will be times where he has to dip in and out.

“If you asked Foz where he wants to play I think he’d say higher up the pitch where his passing can be utilised.

“I can’t speak for the manager but for me, I think Foz is a bit better higher up the pitch. Maybe that will be the case moving forward and long may that continue if it results in performances like Tuesday’s.”

Kaoui Attoumani and Jamie Smith withdrew from action against Sporting due to cramp with Vincent hopeful both will be fit to feature in tomorrow’s home league clash with bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Sporting Community (3pm).

Luke English is unlikely to be fit this weekend or Tuesday’s reversed tie at Studley in the Midland Football League Cup but could be back for matches over the Christmas period.

Andy Gallinagh is awaiting the results of a recent scan on his knee ligament damage.

Horton and fellow Cheltenham youngster Aaron Basford remain eligible for City on an ongoing basis due to being too young for formal loans.
