CHAIRMAN Steve Goode has been left “extremely disappointed” by the "leak" that led to a meeting between Worcester City and top brass at Warriors being cancelled.

Board members from the homeless football club had planned to head to Sixways on Tuesday for initial talks with Jed McCrory, head of the consortium that owns Warriors.

Goode indicated McCrory had expressed concern at discovering that people outside the respective boardrooms knew about the gathering before introductory discussions had taken place.

He added that City's cohort had been set to attend with "no set agenda" in the hope of gaining “advice as much as help” from the Stratford Town Football Club director who recently served on the board at Solihull Moors and was owner and chairman of both Swindon Town and Banbury United before that.

“I am extremely disappointed that someone has said something about this prior to it happening,” said Goode.

“I will be speaking to Jed at some point and hopefully this is something we can revisit in the future.

“I would like to thank Jed for the time he took to speak with us in the first place, it was good of him to have the conversation in my eyes.”

It is understood the prospect of a meeting came about from Warriors contacting a number of clubs and community-led organisations with the aim of establishing a hub for a variety of sports for youngsters at Sixways.

The Gallagher Premiership outfit this week enlisted the help of Nunnery Wood High School PE teacher Bee Bannister to strengthen the bond with state schools, a plan McCrory referred to in a programme column last month.

It read: “As a club we are very excited about working closer with the schools across the region.

“In fact, we will be announcing some new programmes in the future as we endeavour to reach out into the local community.”

Asked who had instigated the meeting, Goode replied: “A bit of both really, we just had a general conversation which would have led to a meeting had it not been for this leak.

“He (McCrory) is a sports person himself and (we) wanted to see whether there would be anything he could help the club with.

“There was no set agenda, it would have been a chat to start with. Many things would have been discussed but nothing specific.

“To be honest it would have been more of a friendly get together in the first instance, for advice as much as help I would guess.

“We may not find out what could have come from it now.”
