“A NUMBER of star quality players” are set to join Worcester Warriors as they bid to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

Co-owner Colin Goldring said player signings were going “very well” and revealed that the new recruits would be announced in the “near future”.

The club director gave an update on Warriors boss Alan Solomons’ retention and recruitment work in the matchday programme for last Saturday’s European Challenge Cup clash with Stade Francais at Sixways.

Wing Perry Humphreys and prop Farai Mudariki signed new deals this week, taking the number of squad members that have put pen to paper to 14 in the past two months.

But Worcester have yet to reveal any new faces that will be arriving in the summer since the transfer window opened at the start of this year.

“Player signings are going very well,” said Goldring in his programme notes.

“Solly has been working intensively over the last few months to retain our existing talented players as well as strengthening the squad further with the recruitment of a number of star quality players who we will be announcing in the near future.

“You will have already seen that we’ve invested in the academy and developing our young players, and the core squad have all shown their commitment and dedication to the club by extending their contracts.”

Goldring and Jason Whittingham were appointed as directors two weeks after a consortium led by Jed McCrory purchased the Gallagher Premiership outfit in early October.

The club then confirmed Goldring and Whittingham who also both run Morecambe FC were co-owners of Warriors along with McCrory last month.

The trio have yet to speak to the media despite interview requests from the Worcester News but are understood to be planning to hold a fans’ forum.

“Jed, Jason and I are immensely proud to be a part of the Warriors family with you all and we look forward with exciting about the future of the club,” continued Goldring in his programme notes.

Warriors have booked their place in the knock-out stages of the European Challenge Cup for the first time in a decade.

They are also close to progressing to the semi-finals of the Premiership Cup and moved four points clear of the drop zone in the Premiership thanks to a dramatic victory over Bath.

Goldring praised Worcester’s fans for helping the players “find that extra strength to push back the opposition team”.

“Warriors are already a formidable team in the Premiership and have recorded impressive results against the likes of Bristol, Quins, Leicester Tigers and Bath,” Goldring added.

“The team have proven what they are capable of and I firmly believe that Solly, Rory (Duncan) and the whole team will do the club proud over the coming games.”
