HANLEY Swan bowed out of the Cheltenham League Senior Charity Cup with a defeat on penalties at Bredon Reserves.

The teams drew 2-2 in the quarter-finals before Bredon won 5-4 on spot-kicks.

Hanley, playing against the strong wind in the first half, found it difficult to cope with the conditions and get the ball under control.

Bredon took advantage to go 1-0 up early on after a high ball deceived the Hanley defence.

At the other end Tom Morris went close with a header and Kevin Moore was unlucky after good running by the former.

Midway through the half Bredon scored again with a well-taken effort.

The second half saw Hanley play down the slope with the wind and within minutes Moore went close to pulling a goal back.

On 65 minutes a Tom Ward free-kick was fired home by Moore with a good finish.

Ten minutes later Hanley drew level when another free-kick was dispatched by Moore with a low shot.

Hanley thought they had scored the winner when Chris Aston broke and put the ball into the net over the keeper's head but the Bredon linesman controversially flagged him offside.

Hanley host Dowty Dynamos on Saturday (2.30pm).

Upton Town visit Tewkesbury Town in the Senior Charity Cup last eight (2pm).

Welland Reserves saw off Smiths Athletic Reserves 5-1 in Division Three.

In Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One, Welland won 3-1 at Cam Bulldogs.

Sixth-placed Welland entertain Upton St Leonards on Saturday.
