BRANSFORD members were again to the fore at the club's annual ladies' three-ball alliance.

The largest field to date of 102 players were representing 20 various Midlands clubs.

Bransford's Annie Hayden (24 handicap), Abi Nixon (28) and Coral Handley (24) won with 79 points.

The next places on 73 were decided on countback with The Worcestershire's Hazel Cartledge (28), Helen Barnes (28) and Jill Brierly (22) second, Bransford's Trish Godwin (25), Eve Lynes (23) and Leigh Thomas (18) third and Fulford Heath's Lynn Wilson (10), Georgina Foxwell (20) and Karen Sharman (19) fourth.

The best front nine was by Susan Sims (15), Jean Badman (10) and Judy Turner (11) of Ladbrook Park with the back honours going to Glynne Hall (23), Lesley Turbutt (14) and Gill Boase (22) from Leominster and The Herefordshire.

Nearest the pin were Margaret Stocker (15) of Worcester Golf and Country Club and Helen Barnes (28) of The Worcestershire.

A raffle in support of the Midlands Air Ambulance raised £317.

Bransford's June Atkinson, one of the event organisers, said they were delighted with the big field and that everyone enjoyed a sunny day.

Chris Cale collected one of the summer's first senior trophies with victory in the Mayor’s Chalice out of a strong entry list of 65 players.

Cale (19) scored 38, Allen Rowberry (30) and Paul Edlin (24) 36, Thomas (18) and Dave Ryall (21) 35 and Fred Yarnold (31) and Roger Clark (25), Colin Weeden (32) and Eve Lynes (23) 34.

Bransford seniors opened their summer programme of club matches with a 5-1 battering of visiting Evesham.

There were wins for Andy Falconer (26) and Cale (19) 5&4, Gordon White (27) and Ferey Ghani (17) 6&4, Phil Spencer (19) and Rob Blake (15) 4&3, Peter Harrison (25) and John Phillips (22) 2&1 and Alan Wallcroft (25) and Dave Lindsay (23) 4&3.

Clark (25) and Trevor Atkinson (15) lost 7&5.
