MALVERN Rugby Club's thriving youth section has been highlighted by the performances of the under 16s.

The boys spent their last year at age-group level before many move up to the colts set-up who are coached by Worcester Warriors' and England's Ted Hill.

Malvern's campaign started with an unlucky 15-10 defeat to Hereford after leading 10-0 before the town side thrashed Bromsgrove 43-19 in their home opener.

They went on to beat Bredon Star 66-19 and Bromyard 15-14 while losing to a strong Luctonians outfit.

Malvern were knocked out of the North Midlands Cup in the first round at Newport despite leading 18-17 with 20 minutes left.

They were rocked in that clash by a serious head injury to Rafaello Cossali-Francis which required an ambulance and long delay but battled on.

In the North Mids Plate, Malvern beat Ledbury after scoring 51 points to reach the quarter-finals where they went down 33-7 to Whitchurch.

They returned to club matches by defeating Bromsgrove 64-12 and bogey side Ledbury 30-24.

Malvern's end-of-season tour to Bath took in games against Chippenham and Trowbridge, losing and winning 27-17 respectively.

They finished the campaign off with an 11-try 73-0 triumph at Bromsgrove.
