WORCESTER Nomads secured only their second Worcestershire Cricket League Division One win from seven games.

The Bransford hosts beat fellow strugglers Bredon by two wickets in a dramatic last over with 240-8 in reply to 236-9.

Nomads inserted the opposition on a good surface and the openers added 82 for the first wicket.

Ollie Cox was first out for 35 and then Dominic Fenney (45) and his father Clive (27) took the score to 130 before both were out within a few balls.

Captain Martin Hill (21) was the only other batsman to look comfortable as skipper Guy Davies (4-46) left the visitors struggling on 181-6.

Cameron Blakey (3-43) quickened the over rate up but his three quick wickets came at a cost.

A powerful 32 not out by Will Metcalfe allowed Bredon to set a challenging total.

After losing two early wickets, opener Dave White and Ollie Ranscombe settled the reply down with a stand of 87.

Bredon took the pace off the ball with spinners from both ends for long periods.

Cox broke the partnership between White and Ranscombe within 10 balls when the latter lofted a simple catch to long-on for 42.

The middle-order batsmen huffed and puffed as the scoring rate required climbed past seven an over to create a tense finish.

Nick Jones stood firm during the last overs, scoring freely.

After a bright 18 from Mark Groves, it fell to Jones and Steve Emson to drive third-from-bottom Nomads towards victory.

Emson smashed 18no off 12 balls and the scores were tied coming into the last over.

Jones (40no) hit the first ball of the last over for four to seal a much-needed triumph.

The two top teams Colwall and Hagley returned to winning ways, beating Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social and struggling Droitwich Spa respectively.

Hagley had captain Michael Stead (74no and 3-21) to thank for their 54-run win at St Peter’s Fields.

The visitors scored 185-8 with David Stephens taking 3-37 from 10 overs.

Despite skipper Martyn Davies' 33 and 34 from veteran Paul Bryan, Spa slumped to 131 all out in 37.3 overs.

Ian Bullock scored 80 and Zaeed Saeed took 7-19 for Bromyard as they beat Cookley to go up to fourth.

Division Two leaders Ombersley seconds beat their Halesowen counterparts by nine wickets at home.

Jamie Hammond claimed 3-15 from 10 overs in Halesowen's 170 all out before Tom Oakley (53), Dominic D'Oliveira (81 not out) and Marcus D'Oliveira (27no) led the winning reply.

Hassan Ahmed took 6-46 for Himley seconds but his efforts could not stop Himbleton winning by 96 runs.

The hosts were bowled out for 211 with Sean Jenkins (48), Stuart Dickenson (35) and Jem Rose (33) starring.

But Himley were skittled for 115 thanks to Sam Jenkins (3-19), Sean Jenkins (3-3) and Rob Perrins (2-22).

In Division Four, the scores were level between fellow high-fliers Alvechurch and Hopwood and Worcester seconds.

Worcester's Faisal Khalid (71) ensured both sides scored 253.

In Division Five, Hanley Castle and Upton amassed 359-8 from 50 overs thanks to Alex Woods (114), Grant Mathews (75), Ollie Price (49) and Matt Pratley (35).

They beat Feckenham seconds by 280 runs as the basement side finished on 79 after an injury to one of their players required a hospital visit.

Droitwich seconds beat Claverley by 60 runs with Carl Thomson scoring 53 and Ajay Kumar 49 before Ben Foster took 4-33.
