LEDBURY hosted their annual schools’ tag rugby festival at Ross Road.

Eighteen primary schools brought a total of 300 pupils to play in pool matches during the morning.

For the afternoon games, teams were ranked into six pools based on their morning’s performance, each playing to win a trophy to take home.

The overall winners of the festival were Ashperton who progress to the Herefordshire Games in July joined by Bosbury and Much Birch team one.

The pool victors were presented with their trophy by Guy Lawrence from sponsors Westons Visitors Centre.

Ashperton claimed the cup, Eastnor the plate, Madley team one the bowl, Brampton Abbotts the vase, Much Birch team two the shield and Madley team three the trophy.

Event organiser Bruce Allcock said: “We are delighted that so many local schools participate in this festival year after year.

“It was a fantastic day with great rugby played in perfect weather and the level of skills is increasing year on year.

“We look forward to next year’s festival which will be held on Friday, May 22 2020, but in the meantime would welcome any newcomers to our junior section on sign-up day on Sunday, September 1.”
