THE top spot in Bransford Golf Club’s Stewards Cup was narrowly claimed by Neil Pask and Marshall Smart.

The duo, who play off 16 and 20 handicaps respectively, won by a point in the stableford from Pete Sheppard (16) and Trevor Atkinson (16) with 46 to 45.

A further point away were Stuart Crump (10) and Carl Wiltshire (12).

Chris and William Ritson (30 and 35) scored 42, Abi Nixon (29) and Lesley Lammas (12) 41 and Mark Tipton (9) and Andy Lammas (6) 40.

It was tight at the top in the seniors' Founders Trophy — a pairs strokeplay event off the white tees.

Just two points covered the top six with two on 66, another on 67 and a third on 68.

A card countback saw victory go to Pete Anthony (11) and Roy Burston (13) over husband and wife Trevor and June Atkinson (20).

Andy Falconer (26) and Les Clarke took third spot from Dave Wild (14) and Andrew Jarvis (23) on countback.

Fifth and sixth spots went to Ivor Lloyd (21) and Mike Weaver (19) and Ray Richardson (28) and Colin Weir (46) respectively.

Mike Hendry (29) and Allen Rowberry (30) finished on 69.

Bransford seniors kept up their unbeaten home run with a 6-1 win over Churchill and Blakedown.

There were wins for Falconer (26) and Wild (14) one-up, Dave Lindsay (23) and Mike Davidge (17) 3&2, Trevor Atkinson (16) and Barry Benge (20) 7&6, Neil Sheldon (22) and Phil Spencer (19) 7&5, Ferey Ghani (17) and Peter Harrison (25) 3&2 and Alan Wallcroft (26) and Gordon White (27) 4&3.

John Phillips (23) and Roger Steade (28) were beaten 4&3.

Meanwhile, Ian Caves was crowned Alexander Park's seniors' club champion.

He totalled 139 ahead of Jim Bland with 150 and Alan Shakesheff with 153.

Two rounds were played under medal rules and off the white tees.

Caves started off with 82 gross 13 handicap 69 nett in front of Bland with 84-14-70 and Julian Smith with 88-17-71.

In the second round, Caves again starred with 82-12-70 followed by Brennan Standell with 97-23-74 and Ray Ingram with 95-19-76.
