MALVERN Town progressed in the Hellenic League's Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup with a 6-2 victory at higher-ranked Longlevens.

Town were hit on the counter-attack early on in the second-round tie but Harry Emmett curled his effort just wide.

A marauding run from Matt Turner caused concern for the hosts in an end-to-end start.

James Febery's towering header from a corner was saved for Malvern while Longlevens' Will Emery got denied by a combination of keeper Charlie Weaver and the post.

But Town broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when Louis Loader curled in a free-kick.

Moments later Turner was thwarted by the keeper from a tight angle.

The second goal arrived just past the quarter-hour mark when a slick move down the left ended with Turner getting a deserved goal.

Longlevens pulled one back on the half-hour when Adam Sauntson initially defended well but as the ball stayed alive the home side forced home from close range.

Soon after Malvern's Ben Miller saw an attempt tipped over before Harry Clark fed Kyonn Evans who showed good strength to hold off his marker and fire into the net.

Another goal followed on 39 minutes when hesitation in the defence was seized upon by Turner who rounded the keeper and slotted home.

But Longlevens were still a threat on the counter and Weaver was alert to save.

A fine move down the right ended with Malvern's fifth goal just before the interval when Turner’s touch set Curtis Smith away on the overlap and his inviting cross was finished off by Clark.

Clark was denied from close range with a header before Turner set up Miller who fired over.

Longlevens' Brad Martin missed from the penalty spot and moments later Malvern added a sixth goal when Evans hit a thunderous strike from distance into the top corner.

After Turner headed inches wide Weaver rescued his side after sloppy defensive play.

Malvern substitute George Hayes' powerful drive was pushed over before Emery was denied by Weaver.

Longlevens pulled a goal back late on when Emmett headed in a high cross at the far post.

Malvern's next scheduled game comes in the Buildbase FA Vase first qualifying round against county rivals Pershore Town.

Due to the ongoing redevelopment work at the HDanywhere Community Stadium it will be played at Evesham United's Jubilee Stadium on Sunday, September 1 (3pm).
